We are planning a very tiny wedding with 17 guests which includes just our immediate families. The wedding will take place at a botanical garden so the flowers are essentially free. I planned on only purchasing a bouquet for myself, some single flowers for my Maid of Honor (sister - only bridesmaid) and boutonierres for my fiance and his father (Best Man). Somone just mentioned to me that you should purchase a bouquet or corsage for your mother and mother-in-law. I am not the typical bride and we want a very simple affair but I wouldn't want to offend either mother. In addition, our wedding is on the weekend of Mother's Day so that may sway your opinion. Thank you for your help!

Because your venue location is within a garden setting, you can really save on floral decor due to your surroundings as you have mentioned.
In regards to personal flowers for the mothers, it would be a very nice gesture to have something special for these two individuals. I understand that you want to keep things on the simpler side, however, if your wedding day is on Mother's Day, I don't think that these florals should be overlooked. If you would prefer not to have a corsage for them, it would be very nice to do a rose ceremony during your nuptial ceremony. This would involve you and your fiance presenting a rose to each of the Mothers at some point during the ceremony. Your officiant might be able to offer some suggestions of where this would fit in nicely with the rest of the ceremony.
Remember, this is not only a special day for you and your future husband, but your families as well. To air on the side of caution, as far as hurting anyone's feelings, it may be best to have corsages ordered so that no one feels overlooked or left out. Audrey Gardemeyer Botanica Floral Designs

In my humble opinion...NEVER ignore Moms. Not even if they ask you to. They earned this. Sue of Hobart's Fine Florals http://www.hobartsfineflorals.com
