     suflowers and goldfish centerpieces

I have long decided I wanted long glass vases with sunflowers and irridescent glass marbles on the bottom with bright orange goldfish swimming for centerpieces. However now that I am actually planning a wedding and not just fantasizing there are a few problems. Are these colors too bright for a wedding that is formal but not black tie? I am having trouble coordinating a tasteful bridal bouquet. Also are cobalt blue bridesmaid dresses too bright w/ these flowers? It is a summer wedding so I think bright is okay but I can't find anyone who has blue, yellow and orange as colors for a wedding. What flowers go with sunflowers ( I love blue)?

Ok...No, not crazy...very nice in fact. I am a floristin a beach area and the goldfish idea comes up a lot (well occassionally) Here is my advise!

1. get the goldfish a week or more before the wedding so that whichever ones can't fathom being moveda are belly up without wittnesses(not a good omen on the wedding day...but quite par for the course for goldfish!)

2. Use vases that are made to hold water...Some inexpensive and thin candle type vases are downright dangerous full of water...When your guests pick them up to take home be sure they will not break easily.

3. Flowers and grasses look beautiful under water but rinse them off first so any residue does not cloud the water.

4. use aged water so the clorine does not kill the fish.

5. Consider the fish to alcohol ratio...where will the fish end up after the reception...Hopefully not in frat boy type stomaches....(I hate to even mention that but it has happened!)

Finally...on the bright side...I think the idea is do- able and sounds amazing. Do a few test runs and see if you are happy. Sunflowers and electric blue are dynamite!!! As far as blue flowers go with electric blue volkerfrieden delphinium . One of the best ever combinations. You can even break apart the little blue flower stalks and spread the blooms around on the table around the centerpiece. They would also make great bouttionneires. There are great mini sunflowers that make a great bridal bouquet as well.

Play with the ideas you have...Come up with the right combinations and do your fantasy...If not now ...when?
By the way...tasteful comes with elegant and well done implemention...get the elements and a trusted friend and work out plan a, b and c until you come up with the right thing...Just like love It can take a little fine tuning...but will be worth it! Have a happy!
