Avoid Theft of Wedding Gifts at the Reception

I've been reading over the forums and seeing how it is considered inappropriate to have a card box of some flavor at the reception. I've also seen how easy it is for things to be misplaced, lost, and/or stolen. What would you recommend for those who brings cards to the reception to ensure they are safe. My mother mentioned a card bag for me to carry around as we visit with the different tables, but that just seems inappropriate as well.

Dear Marcbride,

The card box is similar to a wishing well, which is not appropriate and many find it tacky. It smacks of greed (cash deposits here please); because to be honest, when expecting cards, one is really expecting cash. In some cultures, guests do give cash so the purse had been common in the past, but is also viewed by many to be similar to the wishing well, as if you are expecting large amounts of cash coming your way--very negative.

If you don't have a place for guests to place their card, they will give them to you. Then you can just accept cards if any are given and pass them off to the best man to hold. Perhaps these could be stored with other personal items you brought to the reception.

Guests are supposed to ship their gifts to the couple before the wedding, but unfortunately some still do not know this.

Best wishes,
