Best way to ask for money instead of gifts for our wedding.

Hello!

We are both getting married for the second time and some people might think we don't need much...But we do need lots of stuff, we are starting all over again. We would prefer money gifts (whatever they are) instead of having a registry. We have seen a box at weddings where people put envelopes with cheques inside. Is this polite? Is it done?

Thank you.Sly

The wedding gift "mailbox" is commonplace in some areas of the country however you will not be requesting any type of gift from your guests since that would imply that you are expecting gifts and making the gift the focus of your invitation.

If you do not set up a gift registry then you'll have to let close friends and family members know of your gift preference and, if they are asked by guests, they can tell them your preference.

Please note that there are guests who prefer to give gifts so you may want to set up a registry to help guide them.
