Bridal Attendants Gift to Bride Required?

Hi,

I've been told that it is a nice gesture for the bridesmaids to pool their money to purchase a token group gift for the bride and/or bride and groom. I suggested this to my fellow bridesmaids and was met with significant resistance (even though I was only suggesting $20 per person). Am I making this tradition up? Because no one seems to be aware of it....

Thanks!

It is expected that you will all give a wedding gift to the couple. Many bridal parties do go in on a gift. This is fine.
