A coworker is getting married next month and I am invited to her wedding. I just bought her some pieces of her registered china as a wedding gift and had this gift-wrapped at the store. I'm afraid to mail this to her because it may get broken. I can take the gift to the wedding reception but would prefer to get the gift to her before the wedding. Is it tacky to give it to her at work?
We live about an hour apart so dropping it by her house would be very inconvenient.
Thank you!

Dear Kathysfriend,
It would have been better to have the store ship it to her. Some may take their gifts to the reception because this is done in so many communities. Many just don't know that it is proper to ship the gifts. So, this is an option--not the best and not really proper.
But, this would probably be better than giving it to her at work. If you choose this option, please give it to her in private. Perhaps ask her to meet you in the parking lot so she can put it in her vehicle.

Thank you for your answer. It's what I was afraid of. I was trying (obviously!) for the easy way out, but now think that I will carefully unwrap the gift and make sure the pieces are well wrapped and then rewrap it and ship it.
Thanks again!

It is probably for the best. Plus, you may be teaching someone the proper way to do this. So many do not know. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
