My son is getting married and I agreed to pay for the flowers. I was also planning on giving a cash gift of $500. I just found out that his fiance added over $300 worth of flowers to the order. Now I don't know what to do as far as the gift is concerned. I can't afford to pay for all the flowers and still give them $500, but I don't want them to think I'm slighting them on a wedding gift. If I contribute to the cost of the wedding, do I still have to give them a gift?

Have a talk with the couple and explain your financial concerns. This should be done to make sure that the bride and groom understand that you have a limit on what you can afford to pay for flowers. If you just say that you'll cover the flowers, without giving them a budget to adhere to, they won't understand there are limits. Once you make your finances clear, discuss together how to move forward. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
