Do we bring a gift to an engagement party?

My fiance and I were just invited to attend the engagement party of his good friend. I am wondering if we need to bring a gift to this party. We are tight with money since we too are planning our wedding and we will have to get a wedding present for them too. What is the proper etiquette? Gift or no gift? There wasn't anything listed for a registry.

Gifts are not expected at an Engagement party. And, just for the record, the only invitation in which you would properly include registry information is in the bridal shower invitation.
