     Does Announcement = Gift Request?

My cousin was married recently in a very small ceremony. My mother and my family were not invited although we previously attended weddings for her two siblings. Today we all received a wedding announcement. My mother thinks we should send a gift. I don't think we need to since we were not invited to the wedding. What do you think?

Wedding gifts should never be expected or mandatory, whether you're invited to the wedding or not. Any gift should be given from the heart and not from an etiquette book. If you'd like to give your cousin a wedding gift please do so and if not, send a card wishing them well.
