The reception for my wedding was very informal - more like a backyard party. The party was separate from the ceremony. To keep the ceremony small we invited only family and out of town guests. We invited all our other friends using evite, encouraged everyone to wear jeans and served BBQ. Now it is time to send thank you cards for all the gifts we received from those who attended the party only and I don't have addresses for everyone - just email addresses. Is it appropriate to send electronic thank you cards since that is how everyone received their party invitations?
Thanks for the advice!

Dear Email Thank You,
No, and please no. This is viewed as very impolite. Guest have purchased and given you gifts. It is expected that you handwrite thank you notes and mail them via snail mail. Personize each note with information about the gift the guest gave.
This is the true essence of simple, common courtesy. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
