     Engagement Party Registry?!

My family has told me that i SHOULD NOT register for our engagement party in February. That I should register only for our bridal shower. My engagement party is including 250 guests, while my bridal shower only 100. Im afraid if I don't register, I'll get useless gifts I can't return and then won't get everything I need at the bridal shower. Is there a specific etiquette? Please help?!?!

Confused!

Dear Engagement Party,

An engagement party is not considered a gift giving event. Many times an engagement party is a surprise party for the guests where upon they are informed that the couple is engaged.

You actually should register before the engagement party simply because those close to you may wish to give you something. However, you are not registering for the engagement party. You are registering to give guidance for those who wish to purchase a gift for you because you are getting married. They may use your registries for your shower or wedding gifts.

Please send thank you notes as soon as you receive a gift, but please do not use any of the gifts until after the wedding.

Congratulations on your up-coming wedding.
