     Engagement party thank you notes

My mom tells me that any gifts received BEFORE the wedding should be written by the bride and written as "Jim and I thank you...", however gifts received AFTER the wedding can be written by either of us. Is this correct?

Dear Thank you notes,

For the prewedding parties, this is as it was done in the past because the gifts were for the bride. Most will still follow this if the event was geared toward the bride. But, with couples living together and so many co-ed prewedding parties, thank you notes can be written by the both of you (if the party was for the both of you). The exception is the engagement party. This isn't viewed as a gift giving situation, but some still give. If this is the case, the thank you note is written by the bride.

Wedding gifts are for the couple even if given before the wedding. So the both of you write the thank you notes as soon as you receive the gift.

No gifts are to be used before the wedding. These are to be stored until that date.

Best wishes,
