My niece is getting married in June 2007. Her friends are having a reception honoring the bride and groom on January 6, 2006. Is it customary to bring a gift to this celebration?

Your question confuses me since you would not hold a reception before the actual wedding, nor would you host a bridal shower this many months in advance.
