I have read the posted responses and realize that if attending both the shower and wedding that a gift should be given for both events. However, if I received an invitation to both events and only will be attending the wedding, am I also to get a gift for the shower because I received the invite even thought I can not attend?
Thanks so much for your response!

Re: [Unsure8] Gift for bridal shower if I am not attending?

Dear Gifts,
Well, it all depends. The standard answer is yes, you do have to give a gift just because you were invited. Some very credible etiquette professionals advise this. However, this is where I must disagree. I believe that all gifts are optional, should never be expected, and that we give from the heart. If this is the case, how can a piece of paper obligate someone to give a gift?
With the proliferation of the mega shower and some even charging their guests to attend the bridal shower, I believe more etiquette specialists will come around to this opinion.
So, now that you have both sides of this, the choice is yours.
