Gift for employee wedding - boss not invited

I will try to keep this short and simple.

Employee in small office getting married - small wedding due to expense of reception - office staff and boss (who are friends also) are not invited to wedding or reception.

I suppose gifts are not an obligation, but boss feels they may be expected and/or feels obligation.

?What to do?

Dear Theojones,

Although none of you are invited to the wedding or reception, you could host an office shower for her. Of course, this and all gifts are optional.

Best wishes,
