     Gifts costs US money!!!

Hi, I had a friend offer, as her wedding gift to us, to have my wedding bouquet freeze dried. At the end of the reception she approached me and asked for my flowers. I gave them to her as she had already told me that the "Fresher" the flower the easier to dry.

She took them to a local company that Freeze Dries the flowers the next day. Recenly the company called me to say that my flowers were ready. I went down to pick them up and they then informed me that it would cost me over $300 to be able to take them home. If I was unwilling to pay this that my flowers would become part of their inventory and I would get nothing. My friend paid the $50 deposit required to START the process. I have to pay the balance due.

What do I say to this friend? Can I say anything? We don't have a lot of money, especially after paying for our own wedding, so this really put a financial hardship on us.

Dear Costly Gift,

This was not very nice of your friend. The costs must have been discussed with her before she left your bouquet with them. There really is not much to say at this point. She must know that she cost you money. If she doesn't know, you could tell her that you are not going to spend any money to take the flowers home. Perhaps then she will know what she has done. But, I suppose the best thing to do is to avoid someone who can do this to a friend.

Best wishes,

Perhaps she forgot? I would call her and tell her what has happened.
