Giving Gift Basket Including items from registry

I selected one thing from a friend's registry and wanted to do a basket around it with some little personalized extras. The thing is, the basket looks really funny with the box sitting in it. Would it be appropriate to open the box and put the item in the basket with the other items or would that be like opening their gift? (The item in question is an ice bucket with which I'm getting some kitchen towels, nice beer mugs with their names and some drink books)

Dear CrisDawn,

No, that should be fine. You can take it out of the box.

Best wishes,
