Giving a gift when invitation states no gifts please

I have received an invitation to a wedding that states "no gifts please". I took this as meaning they do not wish their guests to give them presents however most of my friends still think that they should get something. Is it rude not to give a gift? Or should I still get something small so as not to be the odd one out?

Thanks for your replyUnsure

Dear Crawfinator,

Actually, we aren't supposed to take a gift to the wedding. We ship it to them. If they really don't want gifts, it is best to respect their wishes. If you really want to give them something, a nice card is fine.

Although I applaud their focus, we aren't supposed to include any gift information in our invitations. It is positive to focus on the meaning of the event more than gifts though.

Best wishes,
