If asked can we say we prefer cash as a wedding gift
HI.We had a destination wedding. We are now having a reception to celebrate with everyone who could not attend (as well as those who did). We did not register anywhere obviously. But I am being asked what we want (gift cards, etc). We already have a ton of gift cards from showers and do not need any more. If the person wants to give us something is it appropriate to say cash is fine? I also noticed you said the card box is tacky. Everyone we know usually brings cards to the reception and doesnt follow the 'send the gift prior to the wedding rule' so what is another alternative? Thank you.

Dear Willowickmom,
You could state that cash is fine if people ask. But, be prepared for the look. It tends to sound negative and presumptuous.
The wedding is the gift giving event. So, if guests want to give you something, the most appropriate response is to state that anything they wish to give is fine, but you really don't need anything.
If guests give you something, it is best to put it away quickly.
