We only have received gifts from about 1/4 of our guests. Is this normal? The wedding was out of town for most - would this play into it? Most weddings I have been to I have travelled to - plane ticket, hotel, etc, but I have always gotten a gift for the couple. Whats going on here? I don't want to sound materialistic!!

Gifts are really supposed to be sent to the home of the bride before the wedding. It's possible that some may still send a gift but I wouldn't count on it. Just reflect on the wonderful time you had at the wedding and the new life you're making with your groom. Don't worry about the gifts. I agree. Unfortunately there is quite a bit of gift giving fatigue. Too many are expecting others to give them way too much and guests are rebelling. It is unfortunate as it sometimes hurts those who do not have this focus. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
