Is it too early to send a gift?

Hi, I am wondering if it is too early to send a gift now (in April or May) for a wedding in July.

I am a bridesmaid (one of two--we are sharing the maid of honor duties) for my best friend's wedding. Because of work commitments, my friend and her fiancé are traveling Europe this summer, before their wedding in July, and postponing their honeymoon. The gift I have in mind is something for them to use on their travels (two jackets they have been coveting). It is something they definitely want to have for their trip, but a bit expensive for them to buy themselves now or for me to give as a "no-occasion" gift. I was thinking of sending them this gift now, with a card congratulating them on their wedding and wishing them a good trip; I would then send a smaller gift at the time of the wedding.

Is this acceptable, or is it too early for the gift?

Thanks!

Dear Bridesmaid,

Wedding gifts can be given any time after the announcement of an engagement. So this is fine.

No other wedding gift is necessary.

Best wishes,
