Hi, I will be making the wedding cake for my friend's wedding in December (about 300 guests) and I am also a bridesmaid and my fiance a groomsman. I am going to have to spend a great deal of money on this wedding. My fiance and I have calculated that between everything we will both be spending close to $1,000. I do not plan on giving her a monetary gift for the wedding - my gift will be the wedding cake.
Would this be proper? Should I tell her ahead of time that this will be her gift?
Thanks

This is a fine gift. You could certainly make up a card and include your message.
However, you should note that, when accepting an invitation to be a part of a wedding party, there are always costs to consider. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

THank you for your answers. Its just that my friend keeps mentioning how much she has spent on peoples wedding gifts and I feel as if she is insinuating that I should spend that much, if not more on her. Ive always thought the wedding cake was enough, my fiancee is the one that thought it wouldnt be.
Thank You again!

Don't be intimidated by your friend's apparent rudeness. Give the gift you can afford and want to give. The wedding isn't about gifts - it's about love. What better way to show your love for your friend then to take the time to create something with your own hands? Plus, with the price of cakes these days, your gift has a lot of dollar value too.
