     Money as a wedding gift

I am a widow and my fiance is a divorcee. Is it inappropriate to ask for money as a gift? How should I word that in my wedding invitations? I don't want to seem so uncouth, but he and I have accumulated alot of items over the years.

Yes, it is impolite to ask for gifts of any kind. Please do not mention gifts in an invitation since sending an invitation should not be a request for a gift. If you want money as a gift I would suggest spreading the word through family and friends. Please be aware that you will probably receive some gifts anyway so graciously accept the gift, send a thank you note, and if you cannot use the gift then return it or donate it to your favorite charity.
