My fiance lives in Ireland and we will be making our home there. We will be leaving about a day or two after the wedding for a second reception with his family in France and then on to the honeymoon. Is it possible to enclose an announcement/write-up in the invitation to let our family and friends (who do not already know) about the move....in hopes that they will take a hint and not give material gifts? I know that it is extremely improper to mention gifts in any way shape or form....but also know that the word of mouth route doesn't always work. I've been advised before to simply return gifts (if we were to receive any that we couldn't ship to our new home) to the stores for cash or store credit; however, as we will not have time to take care of last minute details and return them as well that is not feasible for us.
Please, help! If the announcement about the move is not rude or tacky, how should I word it?

This question has been addressed on this forum before. Please scan and search for other posts. But, I'll just say, I think you already know the answer since you say it isn't polite to mention gifts in an invitation. I think you've gotten some great advice from the person who told you not to worry about the gifts. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
