Never gave a gift!!!

I am getting married this summer and have been researching wedding etiquette. Last summer my cousin got married and I attended the bridal shower and wedding. I asked a friend if I had to bring a separate gift to both events and the friend told me that if I bring a gift to the bridal shower, than I shouldn't bring a gift to the wedding. So I didn't bring a gift to the wedding. Now I am beginning to question if that was proper. Should I have taken a gift to the wedding as well?

Dear Giftless,

Even though I don't believe in it, yes. If you attend, you would give a gift. These are two different gift giving events.

Please don't beat yourself up about it. Many people are suffering from gift giving fatigue and are now opting not to give.
