Sending wedding gift before the wedding

My husband and I are going to travel to NY for a friends wedding and do not want to lug around with anything but carry on. So, if we buy the couple something from their registry which is sent to their house directly (before the wedding), do we still have to bring a gift to the wedding? and how much is appropriate to spend on the gift?

One gift is all that is expected. Please read the numerous posts we have on the cost of gifts or how much to spend on wedding gifts. The search tool at the bottom of this page is very powerful or you can scan the wedding gifts section manually.

Have a good trip.
