Should I bring a wedding gift if only invited to the after reception party

A work colleague of mine is getting married soon and a collection has been made at work to buy a group present. However, he has since invited me to the evening reception (not the main reception, just the 'afters'). Should I buy him a gift? If so, is it acceptable to not contribute to the group gift?

thanks so much for your advice.

Dear Brid,

No gift is necessary. And, this 'after' party is a very discourteous trend. It is never polite or considerate to invite guests to only part of the party, especially when it is a reception.

I sincerely hope the trend ends soon.

Best wishes,
