Thank-you cards late due to illness - is an explanation needed?
We were married in September of last year. About a month later, my mother required emergency heart surgery. Now that Mom is better (Thank God!), we are looking at only 12 thank-you notes that have been completed.
Should we include an explanation in the cards, especially for those on my husband's side of the family who may not be in the loop of what has happened? Would a quick phonecall suffice? If we do include a note, is it OK for that to be a printed note, as we are rushing now to get over 100 hand-written thank-you cards done?

Dear NewMrs,
You could call these people and explain why their thank you notes are late or include language in your notes about it. But, all thank you notes must be handwritten and sent by snail mail. Those who gave you gifts should be recognized properly and not treated impersonally. In fact, you and your husband could have written these out all along. Even with your mother's surgery, you two had plenty of time to write. So, it is time to write heartfelt thank you notes to all those who spent their hard earned money on you two. No rushing through them.
