My son and his fiancee are getting married in late July. When the wedding was being arranged, they planned to graduate from college in May and move in with us for the summer to save money until starting graduate school in the fall. Unfortunately, the fiancee needs one more class to graduate, so they will remain in their college town until the week before the wedding. Our problem is that the return address for wedding gifts is our address(the parents) so there is a possibility that the gifts will be in our home for several weeks before the bride and groom can open them. This would mean that the thank you notes would not be sent out in a timely fashion. Do you have any suggestions about the best way to handle this?

Re: [austinmother] Timely thank you notes problem

Dear Austinmother,
If there is a name that is visible on the package, then the couple could send cards to that person stating that they have received the gift and a proper thank you note is coming soon. If not, then the only other way would be to either wait until the couple arrives or for you to open the gifts for them. That probably wouldn't be their first choice.
