Too expensive to ship wedding gifts so we want to ask for money
My daughter and her fiance are getting married in the U.S., however , they will be living in Sweden. There are no department stores with registrys in Sweden that are also in the U.S., and it is very expensive to ship from the U.S. to Sweden. What is the proper way to mention this to the guests and that money is preferred?
Thanks

Dear Marina,
There is no polite way to request cash except by word of mouth. They can register for gifts in Sweden and have those shipped to their home. It really doesn't matter that these stores are not in the US. As long as it is online, guests can purchase them. In addition, they can register for gifts here and state on the registry for these to be shipped to their home and not brought to the wedding, which is improper anyway.
When guests ask, they can inform them about the problem with shipping.
