I would like to know what etiquette says about giving gifts. My mother and I have had this conversation recently and I would like to know who is more correct.
While I know gifts are always optional, are you supposed to provide a gift for any wedding shower you might attend and then also provide a gift for the wedding itself. I have always given a gift for both the shower and wedding, but my mother has only given one gift, usually for like the shower.
What do the guide books say?

As you have indicated, you already know that gifts should never be expected and are certainly not mandatory so in theory that is your answer. However, most people do give a gift for every oarty they are invited to; shower and wedding. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
