Wedding gifts for a reception months after the wedding?
My nephew was married in the early summer of this year. It was a small wedding (parents and siblings only) and they didn't plan to have the reception for a couple of months later. My nephew's mother was in a car accident and they postponed it yet another couple of months. We recieved a formal invitation and did RSVP. My wife believes it would be tacky for them to expect a gift. I feel it's only the right thing to do. Shoukld we show up with a gift?

Dear Uncle J:
Gifts are typically given for the wedding, not the reception. However, we believe all gift giving should be optional so, if you want to bring a token of your esteem to congratulate the couple then please do. Just know that it is not obligatory.
