Wedding presents for out of town

I have some friends I met on a vacation. We correspond by letter, e-mail etc. They don't live near me, but invited me to their son's wedding. I have never met their children and unfortunately won't be able to attend the wedding. Should I send a gift or card, or what? Please help.

Dear Wedding Presents,

An invitation is not a plea for a gift, so whether you give a gift or not is up to you. As we always say, "All gift giving is optional" anyway. Even though sending a card is optional also, you might want to send one letting them know how happy you are for them.

Sincerely,
