What to do if you suspect part of the gift is missing
My daughter was recently married. One of the wedding gifts was a single hand towel. I'm wondering if the couple ewho gave it really meant to give just one towel, though there was only one left on the registry, or if they perhaps purchased something in addition to it, which was left out of the package. How should this best be handled? Just write a thank you saying that the gift was appreciated in that it completed the set, or something else? Thank you!

Dear Notime,
Your daughter should handwrite a thank you note thanking the giver for the towel and not assume there was more to the gift. Mentioning that it completed a set could appear as if she wanted more and it could sound a bit sarcastic.
She really shouldn't be telling anyone, including her mother, who gave what. It isn't polite. If she came to you privately for advice, then it isn't a problem.
