When to send thank you notes for wedding gifts

Hello,
I tried to find the answer to my question by searching the forums, but couldn't find anything. Is it proper to send out thank you notes for wedding gifts I receive prior to the wedding? Also, if these gifts are checks, should I wait to cash them until after the wedding? Thank you!

Dear Katty,

Yes, you should write thank you notes as soon as you receive a gift. You can cash the checks too. But, no gift is to be used until after the wedding. This includes the cash. So, place it in an account and keep track of what each person gives you.

Best wishes,
