Who writes thank you for gift of cash?

We received a gift of cash (check) from one of my soon-to-be husband's friends. The envelope was addressed to me (the bride) but the card inside was addressed to my fiance and the check is made payable to him too. Is it most appropriate for my fiance to write the thank you note, from both of us of course, rather than me or does it matter?

Let's assume that your friend made an error in addressing the wedding card and the gift was obviously meant for you both. You'll write the thank you notes for all wedding gifts from the couple.
