appropriate monetary gift to give at the wedding

I am going to a wedding in NY and the posh hotel expenses are being covered. I will be flying in. This will be an upsacle wedding. I was wondering what would be an appropriate monetary gift to give at the wedding.

Dear DJK,

I would still give whatever I would be able to give the couple even if it wasn't an upscale. Your gift should be appropriate for you.

Very true, if you give cash. Yet, in my opinion money is probably the worst gift, because no amount seems appropriate. One amount may seem generous to some, while lacking to others.

It may be best to purchase something from their registry and ship it to them now.

Best wishes,
