     duplicate gifts

At my friend's wedding shower, her and her fiance received several duplicate gifts. They mentioned returning the duplicates and trying to just get cash back to go towards their honeymoon. Her mother is completely against it. She thinks it is rude and they should simply exchange the duplicates for something they needed and didn't get. What is the proper thing to do?

They are returning the gift and getting something they need...CASH to put toward their honeymoon. So, yes, it is perfectly acceptable to return a duplicate gift.
