     opening wedding gifts

My soon to be wife was telling me that tradition is that the bride opens the gifts. I understand that the shower gifts are for the bride from the holland tradition. But what is the etiquett for opening gifts recieved before the wedding or at the wedding. Is it just the bride traditionally? cause that is what she was telling me ,she brings to the marraige. Is this true? Appreciate any help.

Dear Gifted,

You are correct about the shower gifts. Bravo. But, your soon to be is following some old rules. The wedding gifts are sent to both of you. So, you both open them and write the thank you cards as soon as possible.

She is probably thinking of how it used to be in the old days. The gifts were sent to her mother's home because the bride would still be living in the home and the bride's parents were paying for the wedding. She would open them and write all of the thank you notes.

These days both of you open and both of you have an equal share in the writing.

Maybe she just likes opening gifts too. I know I do :)

Best wishes,
