     returning wedding/shower gifts

We planned a destination wedding, and got to the location, and unfortunately, canceled the wedding. I had a shower, and received gifts, and sent the thank you's, and we also received some wedding gifts, and since we lived together, have used some of them. Do I return the shower gifts? And how do I go about returning some of the gifts that we have already used. Of course I will return the rest of the gifts that have not been used yet, how long do I have to do so? Should I send thank you notes for everyone that came to the wedding?

I'm sorry to hear about your cancelled wedding.

This is why no gifts should be used until after the wedding. Please resturn all gifts, even those which you've used as soon as possible.

You can send a note along with the gift.

To answer the second part of your question: Definitely send a thank you note to the guests who attended what should have been your wedding - they did not end up witnessing a marriage, but they were still there for the purpose of supporting you during an important life transition. They deserve to know that they are loved for it.
