wedding gift etiquette, when to open gifts

I recently went to a wedding and the bride opened all of the gifts at the reception. Is this proper? If people bring a gift to the wedding, how do I handle it? Thanks!

No, etiquette states wedding gifts are not to be opened at the reception. Any gift other than an envelope should be sent to the home of the bride before the wedding. This is to aleviate any isses like lost gifts, envelopes falling off gifts or theft. Also, the bride and groom may not be going back to their place right after the wedding and may be heading off to their honeymoon.

However, some people still do bring gifts to the reception so they usually have a table set up for this purpose. I don't recommend you do this becuase of the reasons stated above.
