My daughter and soon to be son in law live in Utah, on the air force base, but the wedding will be in California. They will not be able to take gifts back on the plane to Utah. How do we let guests know to ship to the couple's new address, or gift cards only - no gifts? I know your not supposed to mention gifts with wedding invitations.

You're right - no mention of gifts with the wedding invitations and you certainly won't mention a cash gift preference. Most wedding guests should know that it is proper to send the wedding gift to the home of the bride before the wedding for the reasons that are your concerns. The return address on the wedding invitation will be the "shipping" address. If a guest should bring a gift to the wedding, the couple will have to pack and ship the gift to their home themselves. I completely agree. There is no way around this rule. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
