Destination Wedding - should we Register for gifts?
My fiancee and I are getting married in Maui this December. Because we are aware that it is very expensive, we have told are friends and family that they are welcome to come, but we are not sending formal invitations. We don't want people to feel obligated to go and spend the money. Currently, most of our immediate families and a few friends are planning on attending the wedding. My question is that I have had several friends that are not going to the wedding ask where we have registered for gifts. Isn't it tacky to expect people to give us gifts if they are not attending the wedding? We were not planning on registering at all. Do you think that it would be appropriate to register? Thank you for your help.

Dear Not Expecting Gifts,
Thank you for not focusing on gifts.
Please register because some may want to give you a gift just because they want to give, whether or not they plan to attend. Just don't send those cards out advertising where you are registered, which I'm sure you won't.
