Is it okay to give a wedding gift if you're not close to the couple

I am inquiring about giving a gift to a young lady in my office who is getting married next month. She and I are co-workers and we speak to each other occassionally, briefly about her impending wedding. She and her groom are planning to wed out of state, and they have no plans to invite anyone from the state in which they reside. Is it appropriate for me to give them a gift for well wishes even though she may not consider me a close enough friend?

Dear Supernik,

Yes, it is appropriate to give her a gift, as we can give to anyone we wish. It may be best to give her something that isn't too expensive though, so she doesn't feel awkward.

Best wishes,
