     asking for gift cards

Hello, my fiance and I joined our homes together 4 years ago. We have EVRYTHING for inside of the house. We are also trying to finish renovations as well. Instead of registering for "things", we want to try, in a tactful way, ask for Lowes gift cards only. Could you help me with the wording?

You really cannot expect gifts and then specify which gift you'd like to receive. It is upp to the giver to decide. You can register for Home Depot cards and Loews cards and spread the word that these are what you prefer.

I completely agree. Asking for gift cards only is like asking for cash. There is no tactful or polite way to do this.

Plus, many guests are rebelling against this type of expectation as quite evident in a recent Miss Manner's article
