Anniouncing renewal of vows is postponed

My son and his wife, (they got married by a JP, he was leaving for Iraq), were going to renew their vows on their first anniversary since he has returned home. But, now he was assigned a job in the Marines and will not be able to do the renewal. Is it too foward or rude to send out a letter explaining all that has happened, but maybe people could still acknowledge their marriage?

One year later is a little late to be announcing a marriage and a vow renewal isn't announced. Wedding announcements don't obligate the recipient to send a gift and vow renewals are not gift giving events.

If any guests have been invited to the renewal they should be told of the postponement or cancellation. If the couple wishes to renew their vows at another time they can simply invite those they wish to attend.

I completely agree. If any of you were to announce their wedding at this point, it just may seem as if you are asking for gifts.
