Announcement informing recipients of bride's name

The problem with the traditional wording of announcements is that they do not inform the recipient of what name the newly married woman intends to use (i.e., retain maiden name, hyphenate, or use husband's surname). If we don't want to include at-home or name cards, would it be appropriate for a couple issuing announcements to say something like: "Jane Doe Smith and John Smith are pleased to announce..."?

Thanks!

Denise

Dear Announcing,

Sure, you may combine these cards, especially if your wedding isn't formal.

Best wishes,
