Etiquette on sending wedding annoucement to coworkers
Good afternoon!
On the day of our wedding, I went to my office to pick up a copy of the reading for one of my ushers. There, a retired supervisor, who was asked by the owners to fill in for me, had approached me and asked me privately if I had invited the owners of the company. Since we were on a very tight budget, I told her we did not invite anyone from work. She then told me that was inappropriate and mentioned that had my wife checked out a book by Emily Post, she would have known to at least send a formal wedding annoucement to the owners since I have worked there for a long time. She then told to keep this in mind the "next time" I get married.
Needless to say, I kept this to myself and never said a word to my wife. Could you please tell me if it is indeed necessary to send a formal annoucement to people like this former supervisor and the owners?
Thanks,

Hello there,
Yikes! That was a nasty little bit of acid. This person would do well to read a bit herself. No, it is considered, in many cases, apple polishing, especially if you didn't invite or involve your coworkers.
This person should study business and every day etiquette and leave chastising to parents of little ones. I believe most etiquette professionals would find this behavior obnoxious.
