Originally my fiance and I were planning a destination wedding to Jamaica. However, we have decided that we would prefer to have a private ceremony with just the two of us. Our immediate family members support our decision, and have no hurt feelings. However, I am unsure about the proper etiquette to use. My mother says that if we elope, we should not send announcements until after we are married. Is this true? If so, how do I answer questions about our wedding from people who know we are engaged and are expecting an invitation?

Dear Hugnkiss,
We've mentioned this in very many posts. Announcements are sent after the wedding, never before. Please read our may posts concerning elopements and private ceremonies.
Just let others know that you two decided to have a private ceremony--alone. This also means that there is no shower, even if you host a reception at home after the wedding.
