Is it too late to send wedding announcements

I was just informed that my 24yr old Marine son and his fiancee eloped 18 months ago but they chose to keep it a secret from everyone until now. They live in another state. Should they send out an annoucement or just call relatives and friends. Is it too late to hold a small reception at my house when they come home on leave? Thanks

Dear Ringmybell,

Yes, on both accounts. They should have sent announcements directly after the elopement. And, a reception is only appropriate within the first year of marriage. After that it would be an anniversary party. It is best that they contact family in an informal manner at this point.

Best wishes,
